The niece of King Théoden and sister to Éomer, Éowyn was a noblewoman of Rohan who called herself a shield-maiden. With the hobbit Merry Brandybuck, she rode into battle and killed the Witch-King of Angmar, Lord of the Nazgûl, in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and later married Faramir. Éomer, of the House of Eorl, was the son of Éomund, a descendant of Éofor, and of Théodwyn, sister of King Théoden. After they were orphaned Théoden adopted them as his own children.
